Khayelitsha
The Area
Khayelitsha is a township just outside Cape Town. Khayelitsha (means New Home) has over 1 million residents. An estimated 30% of the population is unemployed, of which 60% are under the age of 30. The formal sector inside Khayelitsha employs only a mere 8% of the estimated labour force. The informal, micro and survival sector makes up an additional 46% of the employment rate.

LtE involvement
- It was in Khayelitsha township, just outside Cape Town, that Learn to Earn started up in 1989
- The building in Ilitha Park, was opened in 2000. This building houses the administrative staff of LtE, the skills training, the Business Resource Centre and the Odd Cup coffee shop
- The building extensions were completed in 2009
